PCFD puts out tractor trailer fire on I-95

The driver reported seeing sparks from under the trailer's rear tires at around 5 a.m. on Jan. 29 while driving south.

The Palm Coast Fire Department put out a tractor trailer fire that temporarily shut down Interstate 95 southbound on Jan. 29.

The incident happened at around 5 a.m. at mile marker 288 when the driver reported seeing sparks from under the trailer's rear tires, PCFD Lt. Patrick Juliano wrote over an email. The PCFD arrived on the scene to find a fire from the rear axel of the tractor trailer's tires. 

The fire extended from the axle into the freight compartment, Juliano wrote, though the cause of the was undetermined. The freight compartment contained pallets of cardboard boxes that firefighters had to remove into order to fully extinguish the fire.

Two of the the three southbound lanes were shut down for an extended period of time, a PCFD Facebook post said.
