Flagler Beach’s Movie in the Park went out with a bang Saturday, Nov. 27, at Wickline Park, but the only actual shots fired were animated. Sheriff Woody and the rest of the “Toy Story 3” gang delighted Flagler Beach residents, despite the 60-degree weather, ending the city’s fall movie season. The free offerings at the park will begin again in March.

The tradition started about six years ago — just before Tom Gillin became the city’s recreation director. Back then, only two families showed up, but now, about 150 to 250 people typically come to each movie, Gillin said.

“We’ve got an atmosphere that other cities don’t have,” he added. “Events like this are great. It’s a family event.”

SAND BITES

+ Holiday weekend
Traditional meets contemporary at Flagler Beach’s holiday celebration.

The beach will be booming with music and a lighting of Veterans Park 5 to 9 p.m. Friday Dec. 3. A contemporary and eclectic lineup of entertainment includes the Seton Singers, Imagine Spirit Cheer, Abby Sue Recker, Tarnished Halo, Matanzas High School Jazz Bank, Impact Worship Ministry at New Way, Jimmy Mason/Gustavo Romos and Evan Ore, Nevaeh, Radical Measures and the National Honor Ensemble.

Photos with Santa will be available at the Flagler Beach Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to enjoying music, shoppers are invited to stop by local businesses and participate in the Scramble Ramble puzzle.

Once puzzles are completed, participants should return to the Flagler Beach Historical Museum to be entered in a drawing for $100. The event starts 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, and ends 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4.

+ Santa’s got talent
Santa will make another beach appearance 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, when he parachutes onto the beach to begin the Flagler’s Got Talent Parade. Santa will then take his spot aboard the Flagler Beach Fire and Rescue entry.

The parade, presented by the Flagler Beach Rotary, will feature 90-second performances by parade participants.

Then, kids are invited to take a hayride to the Flagler Beach Fire Department for cake, ice cream and photos with Santa.
