+ Chamber hosts holiday networking
The Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates hosts a monthly networking event, and this month is projected to be the biggest.

“It’s one of the most highly attended of the year,” said Rebecca DeLorenzo, executive vice president. “We usually have about 150 to 175 people in attendance.”

The event, sponsored by Supreme Steamer, Haven Hospice, Keiser University, Gail Wadsworth and Suzanne Johnston, will begin 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, at the chamber’s office, 20 Airport Road. Call 437-0106.

If you are a member, you get in with a $5 cash donation to help Flagler County residents, or a new unwrapped toy. Nonmembers are welcome for a $10 donation.

+ SERVPRO warns of holiday fires
The holiday season is right around the corner, and many families are preparing to celebrate their individual traditions with Christmas trees, candles and holiday lights.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, Christmas tree fires cause $13.8 million in direct property damage each year, and holiday light-related fires are responsible for another $7.9 million annually.

Gary Kindell, owner of SERVPRO of Flagler County, said: “It’s important to follow some common sense guidelines to help prevent your celebration from turning into a tragedy.”

First, consider battery-operated flameless candles instead of wax candles. Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.

Inspect holiday lights each year for frayed wires and other problems.

Discard and replace damaged strings of lights.

Don’t overload electrical sockets.

Turn off your holiday lights when you leave the house or go to bed.
