+ Palm Coast Post Office: There’s still time!
According to Post Master William Spangler, there’s still time to overnight a last-minute present to an almost-forgotten loved one.

Spangler added that the Palm Coast Post Office has made efforts to improve customers’ experiences this year by adding a mobile unit. A mail truck was positioned at department stores earlier this month. One day, the unit was parked in front of the post office itself, and 150 customers were served outside.

“That’s about 150 people who would have had to stand in line inside,” Spangler said.

He said customers have, by and large, been more prepared with their packages this year than in the past.
But every now and then, someone comes into the post office with a lot of work ahead. Sales Service Associate Jim White said, “One woman pulled up, and her trunk was full of presents, and nothing was in any boxes.”

“Some people show up frantic with bags straight from the store,” Spangler said.

+ Haven Hospice launches volunteer program
Haven Hospice is looking for volunteers. The company has started the Vigil Volunteer Program, designed to provide company to people in their last days.

“It’s for people who are dying alone,” said Sandi Lynch, administrator for Haven Hospice. “We have volunteers who are willing to sit by the bed side 24/7.”

So far, the company has 80 volunteers in 18 counties in the first two months, with five volunteers in Flagler. Call 734-7600.

+ Calling all dust-collecting desktops and laptops
An old computer can be used as a paperweight, a doorstop or an armrest. Jason Johnson, of Marlin Consulting Solutions, and Glenn Napurski, of MMI Technology Solutions, have a better idea.

They have recently started Donate Your Machine, a community project that recycles and refurbishes used PC computers, laptops and monitors and distributes them to needy children through the Flagler County Education Foundation.

“We’re hoping that something that would otherwise be collecting dust gets into the hands of a kid who needs it,” Johnson said.

Anybody with an old computer, with an operating system of Windows XP or newer, can donate the machines to the program. Call Johnson at 957-9311 or Napurski at 597-0250. The drop-off location is 2323 N. State St., Unit 99, Bunnell.

+ Varicose veins have a new foe in town
Dr. John Collucci, co-owner of Vein Treatment Center, completed the certification process and was notified by Cardiovascular Credentialing International, a professional organization for credentialing of vascular ultrasound, that he passed the examination and is now certified as a registered phlebology sonographer.

Phlebology is the medical subspecialty dedicated to the treatment of varicose veins. The Vein Treatment Center is entering its sixth year in the Town Center Medical Building.
