When center Mike Giuliano isn’t bulldozing opponents’ defensive linemen, the senior Flagler Palm Coast High School football player is clearing out every other distraction to focus on school.
Giuliano was recognized as Flagler County School District’s Athlete of the Month for October by the Rotary Club of Flagler County.
Guiliano is a student in the International Baccalaureate program at FPC, is treasurer of the National Honor Society, part of the student government and is a senator for Boy’s State.
In addition to being the Bulldogs’ starting center, he also competes in shot-put and discus on FPC’s track-and-field team. He also is involved in beach clean-ups and the Flagler Habitat store.
Bulldogs coach Caesar Campana said Guiliano is the type of athlete that all coaches enjoy.
“The greatest attribute I can describe Mike with is that he is a hard worker,” Campana said. “In practice every day, he handles about 100 snaps and then collides with a defensive player. ... He has been our most consistent offensive lineman.”
In college, Giuliano wants to study government and law and hopes to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Added Campana: “Mike is a senior, and I wish that I could bring him back for one more year.”
