Not long ago, Harley Davidson, a Border Collie, was a castoff. Now, he’s a world champion.

Harley came to Disc-Connected K-9s as his seventh home in nearly 17 months. Harley was a lot of work for partner Lawrence Fredrick, who trained him three or four times a day for nearly five months. Now, Harley is one of the most seasoned dogs on the team, and was recently crowned world champion at the 2010 AWI World Frisbee Dog Championships. He’s just one of the 14 dogs on the Disc-Connected K-9 team, who will be featured at this year’s first-annual Palm Coast Seafood Festival.

“We take these dogs literally off the streets and turn them into world champions,” Fredrick said.
All of the dogs on the team have come from shelters or have been homeless or abandoned on the streets and have since been rescued.

Disc-Connected K-9s perform between 220 to 240 days per year, and with most gigs featuring three shows each day. That adds up to between 600 and 750 performances a year.

Disc-Connected K-9s will perform 30-minute shows at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, and at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7.

Fredrick said these dogs, which once were homeless, unloved and unwanted, will provide incredible entertainment.

“They are the dogs that love you the most,” Fredrick said.
