Waking up on Christmas morning can be one of the most exciting moments in a child’s life. But with the economy failing, some children might not have many presents to open.

Christmas Come True, a charity that strives to make that morning magical, hosted A Starry Night Ball Saturday, Nov. 13, at Hammock Beach Resort. “It ended up being a lovely evening,” Founder Nadine King said.

Last year the charity helped 54 families and 158 children by providing them a complete Christmas dinner, new clothing, toys and gifts suggested by the parents, a stuffed stocking and haircuts. The organization also helped pay gas and electric bills.

This year the goal is to double that by helping 100 families and 300 children.

“We don’t want the recognition,” King said. “We don’t want the children to know that it comes from an organization. This is a gift to the mom and dad to give to the family, so they can keep the children’s respect because the parents should be the ultimate heroes in a child’s life more than anyone else.”

To donate to the cause, donation boxes can be found at Joseph’s Bistro, Fred Astaire Dance Studio, Rossi’s at the Beach, Venuto’s Pizza, The Meeting Place, Joe’s Pizza, Flagler Video, Hammock Wine & Cheese Shop and Harris Grocery.
