The Flagler Beach Junior Lifeguards got down and dirty July 23, at the Junior Lifeguard competition, in Jacksonville Beach.

With seven competitors on the team, the group competed against programs from Fernandina Beach, St. Johns County and Jacksonville Beach, bringing home 21 medals,

“This competition was important because it is the culmination of all of our summer camps,” said Junior Lifeguard Program Director Trevor Lowe. “Each week is in one way or another geared toward this competition, and bringing home as many medals as we did is a very impressive feat considering the size of our traveling team.”

Sully Magliarno, 13, was the standout competitor for the team, winning seven medals, including four gold medals in the distance run, distance swim, paddle board race, and rescue relay.

Alexis Savage, 9, partnered with Magliarno to win gold in the rescue relay. She also won silver in the beach flags competition.

J.C. Sheffield won gold in the beach flags competition and silver in the distance run. Sheffield partnered with Jack Reynolds to win silver in the rescue relay. Reynolds won bronze in the distance run.

Ben Reynolds and Ombline Magliarno competed on the five-man relay team winning third place.
