Thanks to a grant, 25 youth tennis enthusiasts were able to hone their tennis skills this summer.

Youth tennis players last month were able to work on their skills, thanks to Kate McColgan, tennis instructor, who helped snatch a grant that allowed the players to play for free. A total of 25 players participated.
McColgan said the event helped tennis players develop their skills on the court, even if they had prior tennis experience.
“I want to thank all the parents and players for being so dedicated to this project,” she said. “It was very hard due to the extensive heat.”
The camp took place at the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club, and participants also were able to take a dip in the pool in between sessions to cool off.
McColgan said the grant also helped the club buy new equipment.
“The grant provided new equipment for the kids (at the club),” she said. “New nets, rackets, balls and other training materials were needed for students learning the game at an early age.”
Additionally, McColgan said classes begin Aug. 15, and anyone interested may call the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club at 446-6719.
