+ Matanzas competitive cheer places third
The Matanzas High School competitive cheerleading team placed third Dec. 3, in the UCA regional competition, in Orlando.
Matanzas competed against five other teams, and was just 3.25 points away from first place.
Matanzas also received an invitation to the National High School Cheerleading Competition for the fourth consecutive season.
+ Flagler PAL baseball signups taking place
Signups for the spring season of Flagler PAL baseball are taking place now through Dec. 14.
Cost is $50, but will increase to $65 Dec. 15.
Sign up from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Flagler PAL offices, 5400 E. State Road 100.
Player evaluations take place Jan. 28, and the season begins March 3. Games take place Monday through Saturday, March through May.

+ Bulldogs hoops suffers first loss of season
The Flagler Palm Coast boys basketball team lost to state-ranked Father Lopez Wednesday, Nov. 30, 64-53.
T.J. Alexander led the Bulldogs with 16 points. Malik Maitland and Chris Lubin each scored 10, Sage Snyder had seven and Willie Gardner had five points and seven rebounds.
The Bulldogs bounced back Dec. 2, and defeated University, 73-51.
Five FPC players scored double-digits in points, led by Maitland’s 13. FPC outscored University, 21-5, in the first quarter.
+ Family Life Center golf tourney coming Jan. 9
The 19th-annual Family Life Center golf tournament will take place Monday, Jan. 9, at the Pine Course, in Palm Coast. The shotgun scramble will begin 1 p.m. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $75 per person before Jan. 5, and $85 after that, and includes 18 holes of golf, awards, and a buffet banquet after the tournament. Golf is open to men’s and women’s teams.

+ Elks Hoop Shoot takes place Dec. 10, at Indian Trails
The annual Elks Hoop Shoot competition will take place noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Indian Trails Middle School.
Each child who participates in the contest gets a medal. The top two children in each category receive trophies.Six champions are named — one boy and one girl in three age categories: ages 8 and 9; 10 and 11; and 12 and 13.
The national winners receive a trophy, and their names are inscribed at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, in Springfield, Mass.
At each level, contestants take a total of 25 free throws. National finalists average around 90%.
