+ Pirates beat St. Augustine
The Matanzas Pirates boys soccer team defeated St. Augustine, 1-0, Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Matanzas.

St. Augustine came into the game in first place in the district.

The lone goal was scored by Eric Descartes on an assist by Eric Scarpa.

Matanzas improved to 3-3-1, and 2-2-1 in the district.

Matanzas and Flagler Palm Coast will play in Flagler County’s El Classico 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at FPC.

+ Alexander, bench lead Bulldogs to seventh win
The Flagler Palm Coast boys basketball team beat Pine Ridge, 78-43, Tuesday, Dec. 13, behind a strong performance from T.J. Alexander.

Alexander led the team in scoring with 26 points. Tyler Hopkins scored 16 points and Malik Maitland had nine.

FPC drained nine 3-pointers — Hopkins and Alexander each hit four from beyond the arc.

The Bulldogs’ bench scored 30 of the team’s 78 points.

The team improved its record to 7-1.

+ Pirates hoops falls to NSB
The Matanzas Pirates lost to New Smyrna Beach, 61-47, Tuesday, Dec. 13.

The Pirates (2-5) were led in scoring by Chris Johnson (14 points) and Ivan Tsabak (eight).

+ FPC soccer beats DeLand
Flagler Palm Coast boys soccer defeated DeLand, 2-0, Dec. 13.

Bradley Walbert and Martin Maschio each scored a goal. Umarkhon Ayupov had two assists.

The Bulldogs improved to 7-1 this season.

+ Lady Pirates on a roll
The Matanzas girls soccer team won its fourth straight game Tuesday night.

The Lady Pirates beat St. Augustine, 3-1. Gabi Paiz scored two goals, and Tshai Payne-Clark had one goal and an assist.

Gabi Foran and Steph Gimenez each had an assist.

Matanzas plays Flagler Palm Coast 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Mantanzas.

+ Manning wins award
Matanzas senior defensive lineman Joel Manning was named Matanzas’ Defensive Player of the Year at the end-of-the-year football banquet.

Manning accumulated 45 solo tackles and 24 assists this season, for a total of 69 tackles, which translates to 6.9 tackles per game average. Manning was third on the team in tackles.

He also had the third most sacks on the team, with three.
