Golf has featured a litany of surprises, but none more wonderfully audacious than that banked by Roger Epperson.

The Flint, Mich., native, and former General Motors employee, pulled off the excitement of his first career hole-in-one Dec. 7, while in play with the Grand Reserve men’s league on the fourth hole, using an 8-iron.

Exactly seven days later, he did it again, this time on the 10th hole during men’s league play. Pulling out his 7-hybrid, a club just placed in his bag, Epperson clipped the ace from 140 yards away for the impossible: two holes-in-one in a seven-day span.

When entering the club house for the annual men’s league Christmas celebration, Epperson came to me and said, “Would you have room in the Palm Coast Observer for another hole-in-one story?”

“Sure,” I said. “Who?”

“You won’t believe it,” he said, “but I did it again.”

Removing doubt of this amazing event were Andy Jockamo, Sam Gondek and Art Junker, who were foursome members.

I imagine that two holes-in-one on consecutive play dates has been pulled off somewhere in this country, but I would have no idea where.

I am confident that no one in Palm Coast has pulled off such an exciting golf feat. Amazingly, his golf game had disappeared into the ashes, and while he never said it out loud, those who know Epperson felt he was ready to give up on the game.

But not now. No way. Roger Epperson has vaulted to the status of hero!

Here and there
The Golf Group of Palm Coast LLC has introduced a new non-resident snowbird full golf membership for Pine Lakes and Cypress Knoll.

For $1,590, snowbirds can play unlimited golf with a cart fee rate of $20.09. The cart fee is about $5 less than the current amount.

Go to www.PalmCoast Observer.com, and click on “Blogs” and then my picture for complete details.

Another inexpensive event is the New Year’s celebration, at $99, and a full boat on tap. In past years, I enjoyed Merry Christmas wishes to person after person, each by name.

Today is just as sincere. A wonderful Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all!
