Seven FC United of Florida players were selected earlier this week for the 2011/2012 Super Y-League’s Olympic Development Program.

Each player is selected by birth year. The players from FC United who were selected are as follows: Anthony Cedeno (1993), Steven Danforth (1993), Carey Menifee (1995), Evan McVicker (1996), Nicholas Weber (1996), Tim McGlynn (1997), and Bryan Mejia (1997).

Each player selected are deemed to be in the top 2% of players who compete in the Super Y-League.
ODP brings together top players from around the U.S. and Canada, and is a crucial component of the United Soccer League’s Super Y-League, offering the best players from the U13 to U17 age groups.

The program allows players to attend camps and receive top level coaching, and also the opportunity to be scouted by the U.S. National Team.

This year’s ODP age groups features 192 girls and 192 boys who were born in 1995/1996 and 1997/1998.

The additional lists of players born in 1993/94 (non-camp selections) are posted to recognize the top players from those birth years. The list will be promoted to more than 1,000 colleges, the USSF National Staff, and the Canadian Soccer Association.

The camps are held annually at the 400 acre campus and facilities of IMG Academies, in Bradenton, Fla., which is home to the U.S. Soccer U17 Residency Program. USL National Technical Director Peter Mellor, who has spent the past 18 years as a member of the U.S. National Staff, and 25 years as an ODP coach, will direct the camps.

In its first year of competing in Super-Y, FC United has established itself as a top national competitive program with the selection of many players to ODP.

The club was also selected as a Top 20 National Boys Program Club by USL.

“We are very proud of the teams that competed in the first ever Super-Y program in North Florida,” said Super-Y Director of Coaching Adam Allee. “We definitely brought the highest level of play to the area and saw players compete and grow by being challenged both at training and matches.

“The ODP nominations are a testament to the players’ hard work, and we are very proud of all of the selected players. ... We wish them the best of luck at the national camp.”

FC United will conduct tryouts for the next Super-Y season, which begins in February. More information can be found online at www.fcunited.net.
