+ Matanzas boys basketball falls
The Matanzas Pirates basketball team ended its season at the hands of Terry Parker, 76-37 Feb. 17 in the Class 4A regional quarterfinals.
The Pirates (15-14) was powered by senior forward Wendell Powell (12 points), Ivan Tsabak (seven) and Jalen Hancock (four).
Terry Parker improved to 25-3 on the season.
+ Matanzas boys tennis at 3-1
The Matanzas boys tennis team defeated Atlantic, 6-1, Feb. 17. Then, on Tuesday, Feb. 22, the Pirates defeated Father Lopez, 7-0. The Pirates are 3-1.
+ FPC wrestlers take fifth in state
FPC senior JZ Williams (135 pounds) and Johnny Barrett (189) both earned fifth-place finishes at the FHSAA Class 3A State Wrestling Championship tournament Saturday, Feb. 19.
+ Roller hockey, ball hockey in action
Ball hockey Week 3:
The Knuckleheads blanked the Scorpions, 8-0, with goaltender Bobby Perham securing the shutout with 34 saves. In the late game, a five-point effort from Cameron Heroux led the Hitmen past the Bruins, 8-3.
Roller hockey Feb. 16:
In game one, the Whalers defeated the Predators, 7-5. Bobby Perham led the way for the Whalers, scoring five goals and assisting on the other two goals.
In the second game, the Rangers defeated the Red Wings, 5-4. The Rangers were led by Corey Sherman and Larry Tanenbaum, each scoring two goals and adding one assist.
Rob Colleran and Dave Mancini played well in the net, as both played two games and faced nearly 60 shorts each for the night.
Semifinals will take place March 3 and finals will be March 10.
+ NCWA conference championships at FPC
The National Collegiate Wrestling Association will hold its Southeast Conference Championships Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26, at Flagler Palm Coast High School.
According to FPC Athletic Director Steve DeAugustino, former FPC wrestlers Steve DeAugustino and T.J. Gillin will be competing.
