Flagler Palm Coast High School graduate Nicole Lynn Kelley was crowned Miss Earth Florida 2011, at the Miami Convention Center.
Kelley, 22, earned the title of Miss Earth Daytona Beach in May and won the state title over ladies from across Florida by competing in two rounds of interview, environmental and overall impression challenges, swimsuit competition and gown parade.
Miss Earth is one of the largest pageants in the world, with more than 80 countries competing each year in the world finals.
It is the only one dedicated 100% to environmental and humanitarian efforts, representative said.
Kelley will represent Florida during the 2011 Miss Earth United States competition Aug. 3, in Daytona Beach. During the national pageant, over 60 ladies from across the country will compete for a chance to represent the United States at the world finals in November, in Thailand.
The new Miss Earth Florida is a graduate of University of Florida, with a bachelor's degree in food and resource economics, specializing in international policy. Kelley also received a minor in agriculture and natural resource law, international development and humanitarian assistance, as well as a minor in Spanish.
Besides having the opportunity to represent Florida at the national finals of Miss Earth, Kelley will also create, develop and implement environmental and humanitarian projects in the state during the next 12 months. Her platform is "Food for Thought."
