Flagler County Sportfishing Club is mostly known for its charity tournaments. But for the last two years it has been focusing on the future of the sport by putting on a fishing clinic for kids.
About 200 kids attended the clinic July 16, at Bings Landing. The clinic was funded through the sponsors and a sport fish restoration grant, provided by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservations.
“We try to give back to the community every year, and we really saw that there was a need for kids,” said Chuck Gleichmann, Flagler County Sportfishing Club president.
The conservation, which partnered with the club for the first time this year, puts on 12 to 16 kids clinics a year, throughout the state.
“It’s a great thing for the kids. They get to come out and learn all about conservation and how to fish,” said Nancy Fischer, environmental specialist and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservations kids clinic leader.
Next on the line for the sportfishing club is a tournament in September that will benefit Palm Coast Little League. The club is hoping for 200 anglers to attend the Hurricane Patty’s tournament.
