As the sun beat at 92 degrees, Sunday, July 24, 36 people launched kayaks, one by one, into the Intracoastal Waterway from Tropical Kayak, at the Palm Coast Marina.

The Kayak Extreme Adventure was the fourth of six activities in Change your Life with Florida Hospital Extreme Challenge, and the only stop in Flagler County.

Getting out of the gym and discovering the great outdoors is what the program is all about, according to long-time Florida adventure enthusiast Dr. Scott Brown.

Previous adventures were a three-hole golf academy at the LPGA, in Daytona Beach; extreme surf camp, in Ormond Beach; and a Canaveral National Seashore Outback Beach Trek.

There are two challenges left in the series, an Aug. 7 Echo Adventure, at Lyonia Preserve, and an Aug. 21 YMCA All-Sports Day, at the DeLand Family YMCA.
