The first hospital in the Adventist Health System to go live with a barcode-centered patient/medication identification program, Florida Hospital Flagler achieved “Stage 6” classification from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.
The recognition is measured on the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model, a methodology for evaluating the progress/impact of electronic record systems. The barcodes work to double-check each patient with their pharmacy profiles to ensure correct dosages and amounts.
Stage 6 hospitals focus on strategic alignments to effectively utilize information technology, keep almost fully paperless medical records and have an advantage in clinical support, recruitment and patient safety.
“This designation is a reflection of our employees’ continued focus on improving processes and providing the safest and highest quality care for our patients,” said Florida Hospital Flagler President and CEO David Ottati.
As of July, only 4% of the more than 5,000 hospitals nationwide have reached Stage 6 in the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model.
