Gov. Rick Scott made a stop in Flagler County June 14 to assess the situation. Scott declared Florida in a state of emergency June 13 because of the wildfires.
Spots on the ground where fires take place can reach hotter than 550 degrees, according Flagler County Emergency Operations Manager Troy Harper. Once it reaches that level of heat, a ground thermometer can’t read the temperature.

Approximately 135 structures were lost in the 1985 fires. In 1998, 70 structures were lost. So far this year, zero structures have been lost because of the wildfires.
With a burn ban in effect, Flagler County Administrator Craig Coffey said Fourth of July fireworks could be in serious jeopardy if substantial rainfall doesn’t occur over the next three weeks.
