Sandwiched between First Friday and the July Fourth festivities is an event that organizer Nadine King hopes will provide a spark for Flagler Beach businesses.
The event, called “A Taste of Summer and Treasure Hunt in Flagler Beach,” is simple.
First, visit King’s shop, Christmas Come True, 208 S. Central Ave., Flagler Beach, and buy a $5 wristband. With the wristband, participants will receive a map pointing out each of the 30-plus businesses in the event, stretching from South 19th Street to North 22nd Street.
Then, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 2, stride the streets in Flagler Beach. Each business will have a phrase to finish. For example, “Sally sells seashells by ... ” Finish the phrase on the provided sheet and get a free a taste of what the shop has to offer.
“If you plan your day around all the breakfast spots, you can get your breakfast for the morning,” King said. “Then, go play on the beach for a while; then go to the lunch places. You could literally eat your self to death all day.”
And that’s just the immediate reward. Once participants collect 25 or more of the phrases, they can return to Christmas Come True with a completed phrase sheet and enter their names into a drawing July 4 for one of two Ultimate Gift Baskets. Completed phrase sheets can also be dropped off 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 3, at Christmas Come True.
Each one of the businesses will donate a certificate and/or a representative gift, so each basket could be filled with hundreds of dollars of gift certificates and giveaways.
“I can see groups of families getting together and doing this. How much fun would that be?” King said. “I could see groups of friends getting together, playing volleyball and then going to get the free tastes.”
King hopes to have 50 businesses on board by July 2.
“Of all the businesses that I’ve talked to, no one has said no, and everybody loves the fact that they’re being all included,” King said.
