Feb. 15
Diamond dos and don’ts
6:45 p.m. — First Block of Pittman Drive. Larceny Motor Vehicle. A woman told police that around 6:30 p.m., she went to visit a male friend to drop off cigarettes. As she ran inside the house, she left her black wallet sitting on the front seat of her white 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse. After about 45 minutes, she left and noticed her wallet was missing.
She was looking around her car and noticed her radar detector was also gone. Inside her wallet was a gold necklace with diamond pendants, two credit cards, her Florida driver’s License, and $20 in cash. She closed all of her bank accounts, and none of them was compromised. The necklace stolen was valued at about $450 and the radar detector at about $40.
Feb. 17
‘Tint’-illating traffic stop
7:11 a.m. — State Road 11. Traffic Stop. A deputy was conducting a traffic stop in reference to an illegal tint on a white Dodge Stratus on State Road 11 near the Sweetwater intersection. The driver was advised that the tint was confirmed to only allow 17% of light transmittal through the front side windows. When the deputy asked for the young woman’s driver’s license, she stated that her driver’s license was suspended because of insurance issues. The driver was issued a notice to appear. She made arrangements to be picked up, and her car was towed away.
Feb. 19
Cold feet?
2:12 p.m. — 5200 Block of State Road 100. Larceny. A deputy met with the loss-prevention officer who stated that a young man stole approximately $13 worth of socks from the business. The loss-prevention officer stated that because of the low price and that the suspect is a minor, he would contact the parents and release them without law enforcement involvement.
However, the young man did not have a home phone, and his father’s cell phone was turned off. The loss-prevention officer did not want to pursue criminal charges and just wanted him to be trespassed. Contact was made with the man’s father, but he stated that he did not have a car to pick the young man up. The shoplifter was transported to his residence by the police officer, who then informed his father of the incident. The father told the officer that he appreciated the cooperation and will handle the incident accordingly.
Feb. 20
Woman loses purse for several minutes
2:05 a.m. — 200 Block of St. Joe Plaza Drive. Larceny. A woman told police that her purse was stolen. The victim stated that she left her purse on the counter of the bar and walked away from it to go dancing. When she returned to the bar, her purse was missing.
The brand of the purse was The Sak and was brown in color. Inside the purse was her wallet, her Apple iPhone and other miscellaneous items. The woman was uncooperative with providing further information and appeared to be intoxicated.
She said she wanted to leave and go home because she thought someone was going to go to her residence and kill her kids because of the theft of the purse. Before the report was completed, another deputy located the purse on a sidewalk on Cypress Point Parkway near a building under construction. The deputy returned the purse to the woman.
Feb. 21
$3,100 cash stolen from suitcases
7:35 p.m. — First Block of Kingswood Drive. Larceny. Two people from Pennsylvania were staying in a hotel. They stated that they left their room at approximately 5:30 p.m. and returned around 7:30 p.m.
When the woman went into her suitcase, she noticed a bank envelope containing $1,300 was missing. When the man checked his suitcase, he noticed a bank envelope containing $1,800 was missing. The victims advised that nothing else was missing, and the room did not look disturbed. There were several pry marks on the door showing forced entry into the hotel room. No evidence was collected from the scene, and there are no suspects at this time.
