“The purpose of the State History Fair and National History Day is that it makes history come alive for students who participate in the program,” said teacher and county coordinator Cami Brocksmith.
Students Victoria Aparico, Morgan Kimes and Elyse Tallaksen were the first to represent Flagler in the county’s history. They all received the Outstanding Achievement Award for the county.

+ Students recite, perform at first Poetry Slam at Imagine
Poetry was meant to be read out loud. In that tradition, Imagine at Town Center Middle School students participated in the school’s first Poetry Slam.
Each student could either prepare a poem or use a well-known published one.
“The purpose of a poetry slam is to use expression and props when reciting poetry and encourages poets to focus on what they are saying and how they are saying it,” said teacher Kristen Rossheimh.
Students were graded using a rubric based on vocal quality, vocabulary, pronunciation, choice of material, memorization and delivery.
The winners: sixth grade, Daniela Shamailov; seventh grade, Susanna Van de Graff; and eighth grade, Margo Reed.
