Buddy Taylor Middle School students invited the audience to sit back and become a kid again during their production of “Seussical the Musical Jr.”
The production was the combined efforts of the advanced drama class, under the direction of Kimberlin Osofsky, and the advanced chorus class, under the direction of Ann Paris.
Maxine Kronick, who volunteers her time to the program, also assisted the production.
“It has been a great experience for the kids because our actors have had to become singers, and our singers have become actors,” Paris said.
“Seussical Jr.” is a one-act play based on the books of Dr. Seuss. In the play, JoJo thinks up “The Cat in the Hat” when she finds a strange hat at center stage. The Cat helps the girl create the Seussian universe and the rest of the story.
“This has been an opportunity for them to apply their knowledge to being creative and thinking outside the box,” Paris said. “We have done everything we can to create a safe place where students are encouraged by one another to experiment and create.”
