The Flagler Playhouse will introduce new talent on stage and behind the scenes in its upcoming production of “Steel Magnolias,” directed by Stephen Pigman.

Pigman, making his Flagler Playhouse directing debut, brings a young male perspective the story of six southern women who share their lives with each other in the comfort of their neighborhood salon.

“(Pigman’s) own acting experience, I think, has really brought a lot to this show,” said Pat Love, president of the Flagler Playhouse and M’Lynn in the production. “There was a lot of time spent with character. I think it brings a different view from a more youthful experience.”

But Pigman is not the only new face at the playhouse. Lauren Faulkner, who plays Truvy, is making her acting debut on the playhouse stage.

“I’ve always been told I was theatrical — in a good way, I hope,” Faulkner said. “And that’s why I got involved.”

Debby Petty, who plays Clairee, will be taking the stage for the first time since high school, alongside another theater newcomer, Cynthia Frederickson, who plays Ouiser.

Experienced St. Augustine actresses Sarah Rogers, as Annelle, and Ivy Nacol, as Shelby, are also new additions to the Flagler Playhouse stage.

“I feel it’s important that you have a broad pool of people that will come in,” Pigman said. “What I like about directing is that each person is unique, and they bring their own flavor, and I like to let that surface. I try to pull that out of them.”

The show opens 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4 and will continue through Nov. 20, with shows 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

Tickets are $15. Call 586-0773. The Flagler Playhouse is located at 301 E. Moody Blvd., Bunnell.
