In the team’s first season, the Flagler Prospects U13 AAU baseball team won the fall state championship Sunday, Nov. 13, defeating Orlando Diamond Dawgs, 11-8, in the title game.

The tournament took place at the Fields of Fame, in Apopka. The Flagler Prospects played two games Saturday and two games Sunday.

The tournament consisted of two, eight-team brackets. The Flagler Prospects won its bracket, and then defeated the Diamond Dogs, which won the other bracket, in the championship.

“These boys have gelled incredibly in only a few short months, and so have the parents,” said Keith Stuart, whose son, Jeffrey, plays on the team.

The team is coached by Hector Caraballo, Chris Conklin and Bo Mitchell.

The Flagler Prospects is a travel baseball program with teams in the U12, U13, U14 and U16 age divisions. Most players are from Flagler County.

There are more than 50 players currently in the program, which was started in 2010 in the U14 division.

Keith Stuart, who helped begin the program, said the idea was to keep youth baseball players playing travel ball on Flagler County-based teams, and also to serve as a feeder program to the high schools.

Tryouts for next season will take place in mid-December. For more information, email Keith Stuart at [email protected].
