The Palm Coast City Council unanimously agreed Oct. 4 to postpone implementing any parks and recreation fee structure.
Council members agreed that it's important to work with the various athletics organizations throughout the city. The council also wanted more time to establish fair prices for lighting, field reservations, field lining, and scoreboard usage, or if there should even be fees at all.
Representatives from Palm Coast Little League and Phantom Flag Football, both of which are nonprofits, attended Tuesday night’s meeting.
Their plea was that sometimes they barely have the funds to put on a season, no less pay the city for lights, field lining, and scoreboards.
“I think that when we look at fees, we tend to look at the nonprofits as though they are a business,” said City Council member Bill Lewis. “But they are not a business.”
Ultimately, Lewis made a motion to revisit the fee structure at a future meeting. All five council members agreed.
