The Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs meet district opponent Spruce Creek 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Sal Campanella. Memorial Stadium.
Homecoming: a coach’s worst nightmare.
It’s a reality for the coaching staff at Flagler Palm Coast High School this week.
The Bulldogs will host district opponent Spruce Creek 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7.
Last week, the Bulldogs lost to Ponte Vedra, 35-7. Coach Caesar Campana said his team simply didn’t perform last week, and Ponte Vedra executed its plays and capitalized on FPC mistakes.
This week, FPC (3-2, 1-0) hopes to win its second district game of the season. Spruce Creek comes into the game also with a 3-2 record, and a big win over Deltona last week. Earlier this season, Spruce Creek upset Seabreeze, 10-7. FPC lost to Seabreeze 40-13. FPC did beat Spruce Creek last season.
Campana said there are so many distractions throughout homecoming week that it can cause the players to lose focus.
“There are a million things going through (the players’) minds besides the football game,” Campana said.
Other than trying to keep his team focused, Campana said there haven’t been any drastic changes through the first five weeks of the season.
And though last week’s loss was tough, Campana said it’s on to the next one.
“Win or lose, you have to get ready for the next game,” he said. “When we win, we celebrate our game and then get back to work. When we lose, we get back to work, and basically forget what happened in the game before.”
Spruce Creek brings a big, strong team to Flagler, Campana said. He also said that the Hawks run a variety of sets offensively, which will keep the Bulldogs’ defense busy.
