Hollingsworth Gallery will be dedicating wall space solely to photography for its upcoming Second Saturday opening, 7 Cameras, 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.
The show will feature photography by Steven Benson, Dan Biferie, Nik Clements, Jennifer Kaczmarek, Mercedez McCartney, A.J. Neste and Mark Townsend.
“We’ve included photography in several of our exhibits, but haven’t yet given the medium the opportunity to stand alone,” said McCartney, co-owner and director of the gallery. “The photographs I chose for this exhibit, I hope will challenge the viewer to see beyond the mainstream idea of beauty.”
Townsend’s series, entitled “The mudders,” captures a raw look at a community of people in Bunnell, McCartney said.
“The way he shoots those pictures, it tells a story, and it looks beautiful,” she added.
The idea behind the show is to display photographic works that cannot be duplicated.
“It’s not about taking pictures of what’s happening around you, but what’s happening in you,” McCartney said. “It’s more of an insight into that photographer’s personality.”
AT THE ART LEAGUE
“The Animal Kingdom” will be on display in the main gallery at the Flagler County Art League 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. The show will feature a variety of media dealing with animals, except people and insects. A magnificent minis show will be on display in the side gallery.
October will also feature two retrospective shows of work by two league members who recently died: Ernie Baudhuin’s watercolor collection and and Anna Lokshina’s portrait sketches will be on display.
