Matanzas High School volleyball (8-10) defeated Flagler Palm Coast, 3-0, Thursday, Oct. 6, at FPC.

FPC (4-11) challenged the Pirates in each game. The scores were 19-25, 23-25 and 22-25.

“(FPC) is a good match all the time,” said Matanzas coach Robert Roe.

The Pirates were led offensively by Allie Divito, with five kills; Ashley Davies, with 25 assists; and Melissa Cote, with 13 serves.

Brittany Rodrigues had 13 digs for the Lady Pirates.

In the third game, it looked like FPC was going to stage a comeback, with a long rally to tie the game at 20-20, which ended with a kill by FPC’s Olga Nushteyva.

“Our defense was on point and went for everything,” said FPC coach Kali Hurry. “We got everything up, which allowed the offense to do what they needed to do.”

Nushteyva was the standout player for the Bulldogs, with 11 kills on offense and four blocks on defense.

“That was probably the best game we have played all year,” Hurry said. “They played amazing, and Matanzas just made fewer errors.”
