+ Scorpions sting for Flagler hockey title
In a defensive struggle, the Scorpions defeated the Knuckleheads, 2-0, Sept. 29, in the championship game of the Flagler County Dek Hockey League.

The Knuckleheads defeated the Hitmen, 8-4, to earn a spot in the finals. Meanwhile, the Scorpions — who were the regular-season champions — knocked off the Blazers, 6-0, to get to the finals.

In the finals, the game remained scoreless after two periods behind excellent goaltending from Bobby Perham, of the Knuckleheads, and Mike Scavarda, of the Scorpions.

In the third period, however, J.C. Cassel, of the Scorpions, scored to break the deadlock, and then Eddie Jesse added an insurance goal, putting the Scorpions ahead for good.

Scavarda was recognized as the league MVP for the season. He didn’t allow a goal in the playoffs. Cassel was honored with the sportsmanship award.

Teams are now forming for the fall season.

It all takes place at the rink at the Youth Center, off Bulldog Drive, near Flagler Palm Coast High School. Interested players should contact Larry Tanenbaum at 503-5593 or via email at [email protected].
