OCT. 14
Five-minute heist
9:45 p.m. — 5000 Block of East State Road 100. Larceny. A juvenile victim stated that someone had stolen his bicycle from outside a restaurant. The victim was in the restaurant for approximately five minutes and had put his bike next to the bike rack on the sidewalk to run in and get a drink. When he came back out, the bicycle was gone, and he does not know who would have taken it. The bike is a blue beach cruiser with chrome fenders and is valued at approximately $130.
OCT. 15
Speed demon
12:41 a.m. — Waterside Parkway/Birdie Lane. Larceny. A victim advised the responding officer that he was part of a committee responsible for monitoring traffic speed in Grand Haven. At 12:25 a.m. he received an email stating that the speed-monitoring device had sustained significant impact. The victim advised that he then observed the device was missing.
At 12:42 a.m., he received another email reporting another significant impact.
The victim then attempted to monitor the device using its GPS tracking capabilities, and the results showed the device was on State Road 100. However, a search for the device yielded negative results.
The case is suspended at this time pending suspect information.
OCT. 16
I’ve never seen that baggie in my life
1:01 a.m. — Seminole Woods Boulevard/Universal Trail. Traffic stop. An officer conducted a traffic stop for an observed vehicle failing to dim its headlights to another oncoming vehicle. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer observed not only a half-full glass bottle of beer but also a clear plastic baggy containing a green leafy substance, both in plain view.
The driver was asked to exit the vehicle, and the passenger was advised to remain seated. The suspect denied any knowledge of the baggy and its contents. The passenger also denied any knowledge. A field test on the substance tested positive for marijuana, and a towing service arrived to remove the vehicle.
OCT. 18
Lost change
9:37 a.m. — First Block of Burma Place. Larceny-motor vehicle. A victim stated that sometime in the night someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole some loose change, as well as his grandfather’s gold Pennsylvania State Police badge from the console. The badge had the victim’s grandfather’s name engraved on the back, and is estimated to be worth $100, although the victim says it has more sentimental value than anything. There are no suspects at this time.
OCT. 20
Couch nap
8:27 a.m. — First Block of Blairsville Drive. Burglary residence. A victim advised that an unknown person by unknown means broke his bedroom window while he was sleeping on the living room couch. The victim went to investigate the noise and observed a male in a black T-shirt and surfer shorts exit through the window and ride off on a silver mountain bike.
Officers discovered a large area of dirt outside the window; the window appeared to be broken from the outside. However, the victim’s bed was directly under the window, and there were no signs of the dirt being stepped on.
The subject took several items, including a black backpack containing 68 prescription pills, a plain black hoodie and a black T-shirt. The total value of the items stolen is approximately $210. Photos were taken of the scene for further investigation.
