News that three local golf courses are about to be sold has gone through Palm Coast golfers like an unstoppable whirlwind.
The question flying my way now is as follows: Do you think this will go through?
Yes, I do. And I have good reasons for that assessment.
Craig Ranciatto is a friend, and I have great respect for him and his business acumen. One of the buyers, Bill Tully, plays Grand Reserve with friends each Friday, and everyone there speaks in glowing terms.
Palm Coast city championships
Harry Davis, in my eyes the top golfer in this part of Florida for a 14-year period, cut the cake with another dazzling performance to win the Palm Coast City Golf Championships, Aug. 28, at Palm Harbor. Davis shot 150 over 36-holes to outscore runner-up Lindsay Dolamore by seven strokes. That same score got him the Senior Flight championship over Dennis Lankford’s 158.
Foster Vestal clipped first net honors with a 36-hole tournament of 142.
Mary Rodgers had loud cheers, too.
Rodgers, a 17-year-old star at Matanzas High School, was the only player to match Davis’ score of 150. Marcia Hayton, another successful and popular golfer, cut out the Senior Championship at 137.
Tom Savone took Flight 1 at 159, Charlie Fiske first net with 138. Terry Smith tucked away Flight 2, scoring 171. Mark Ghazi took first net at 142.
Junior winners were Nick Jahn, Dylan Olsen and Alec Laios.
Mark Bowlus
You’ll go a long way into the setting sun before finding a better golf club manager than this man. He lost popular Head Pro Chris Duquette when a job offer in Texas was accepted. Bowlus than followed up by bringing in Jason Bench. With Bowlus at the wheel, you can bet Bench is another perfect fit for Grand Haven members.
Hole-in-one
Sue Gronwoldt, among the most popular golfers in Palm Coast, notched her second ace when she slam-dunked the 14th hole at LPGA, in Daytona Beach.
