+ Mary Rodgers: Rotary’s Athlete of the Month
Matanzas High School golf standout Mary Rodgers was honored as the Rotary Student-Athlete of the Month, for September.
Rodgers, a senior, has dedicated more than 100 hours of community service working in the MHS athletic training department.
She has also logged an additional 30 hours working in the ESE department.
A member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Rodgers is ranked No. 5 in her senior class with an unweighted GPA of 3.85 and weighted GPA of 4.45.
Rodgers has been the MVP of the girls golf team for three consecutive years and is the defending district champion for the past two seasons.
In November, Rodgers will sign a full athletic scholarship to the University of North Florida, in Jacksonville. Rodgers is the first female from Matanzas to receive a full NCAA Division-I athletic scholarship.
+ Bruce Hammock wins Grand Reserve title
Bruce Hammock came roaring from behind in the final 18 holes to overtake John Metz and win the first men’s Club Championship at Grand Reserve.
Hammock shot a blazing 36-hole score of 133 to win by five shots over John Clancy.
Metz slipped in the final 18, taking third place with a score of 144. Dave Johnson took fourth, shooting a 145.
Net winners were John Johns and Bob Jacenko.
Ray Epperson and J.D. Norris took the next two places on scores of 139 and 140, respectively.
+ FPC swimming beats University in 11 events
The Flagler Palm Coast swim team defeated University Sept. 15. The girls team won 11 out of 11 events, winning with a score of 102-69.
The boys team won seven out of 11 events, winning with a score of 86.69.
+ Middle-school soccer tryouts held Sept. 27 and 29
The Indian Trails Middle School Mustang soccer program will have tryouts 3-5 p.m. Sept. 27 and Sept. 29, at Indian Trails Sports Complex.
The program, as part of Flagler Premier Soccer, will start next year and is designed to allow Flagler County schools to play against Volusia and St. Johns county schools.
+ Adult kickball league coming to Palm Coast
The city of Palm Coast’s Parks and Recreation Department has announced the launching of a new adult kickball league, to start Monday, Oct. 3.
The league will run through Nov. 14, with six Monday night games plus a single-elimination tournament, all held at Ralph Carter Park, at 1385 Rymfire Drive.
Space is limited to six teams, and league fees are $175 per team.
Enrollment is now being held at the Palm Coast Community Center, at 305 Palm Coast Parkway.
Registration ends Sept. 23.

+ Brian West: Palm Coast’s 300 bowler does it again
During the Wednesday Night Classic League, and Coquina Lanes, Brian West, of Palm Coast, bowled a perfect 300.
This was West’s sixth 300 game, and the third this year.
West, 26, works at the bowling alley, and competes in three weekly leagues.
The 300 game came in his last game of the night. For the series, West bowled a 246, 252 and 300, good for a 798 series.
+ West Ham United hosts training session
United International Academy held an open talent day Sept. 18, at Indian Trails Sports Complex, for soccer plays between the ages of 7 and 16.
The purpose of the session is to help develop youth players, as well as provide each player with an opportunity to be identified by some of the best youth soccer programs in the world.
Reg Monsanto, FC United president, said the partnership with West Ham United International Academy is beneficial for many.
“Our visions are aligned and we share the goal to help develop and nurture great soccer players,” Monsanto said.
