A panel of seven independent judges selected 26 classroom projects from a total of 45 grant applications as the “best of the best” to receive a total of $31,000 in grant dollars to carry out innovative learning in Flagler County Schools K-12 classrooms.

Each year the Flagler County Education Foundation invites teachers to apply for Dell Trayer Grants. This year FCEF Board Member Rebecca DeLorenzo chaired the effort working for months to prepare Dell Trayer Grant Program call for entries, judging and teacher recognition.

“It’s worth it when you see students eager to learn thanks to extra dollars made available for hands-on learning projects designed by our county’s most innovative teachers,” DeLorenzo said.

The Dell Trayer Grant Program is named after beloved educator Oradell “Dell” Trayer, who was a school board member and served on the FCEF board. Like Trayer, teachers who win Dell Trayer grants are among the most passionate and dedicated teachers.

Grants are made possible through a school employee payroll deduction program called, “One 4 the Kids.” Nearly 500 school employees choose to give at least one dollar per pay period. Principals, school board members, administrators and classroom teachers are among the list of loyal donors.

School employee dollars are matched by the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations (CFEF), a statewide professional association that serves as the conduit for business and philanthropic investment in Florida’s classrooms by creating statewide and regional partnerships.
