For the first time since 2004, the FPC boys lacrosse team won the district championship.
Flagler Palm Coast was in an early 1-0 deficit to Pedro Menendez Friday, April 20, in the District 6 boys lacrosse championship.
But that didn’t last very long.
The Bulldogs (11-5) went on to score four unanswered goals in the first quarter and eventually defeated the Falcons, 15-5.
Trailing 8-3 at halftime, Pedro Menendez went on a run to open the second half, narrowing FPC’s lead to three, at 8-5.
FPC coach Ryan Andrews said attackman Shane Noble was issued a stick penalty and had to sit three minutes. All three of Pedro Menendez’s goals came while Noble was serving his penalty.
Once Noble was able to get back on the field, however, FPC ran away, going on a 7-0 run to close out the game.
Andrews said he had his team practice for an additional hour before Friday’s game to make sure they were prepared.
“These seniors — these nine guys — I started coaching them in (middle school), and I promised them that if they stuck together, they will be district champions,” Andrews said after the game. “So this was well-deserved, a long time coming.”
Noble led the Bulldogs in scoring with six goals and one assist. Wes Adams had three goals and three assists.
Goalie Conor Bertha had six saves.
The Bulldogs advanced to the state playoffs and played Ponte Vedra Tuesday night.
