More than 700 got down and dirty Saturday, April 21, for the second Flagler FL. ROC race. The attendance was almost double from the first Flagler event, which included 452 participants.
“We were blown away by the participation this year — actually, the local participation,” said Danny Matuszczak, who along with his brother, Joe, directed the race. “Flagler residents came out and supported us, which we were so excited about.”
The race, held on the Strickland family property in West Flagler County, not only grew in attendance, but also in length and obstacles.
The adventure enthusiasts stretched the course to four miles to get to the far lake on the property, which hosted the site of a 15-foot jump, monkey bars and a sandbag loop.
Matuszczak said: “Adding the extra mile, you always have to weigh if it’s worth having people run longer who technically might not be runners. We thought the added bonus made the race a lot more fun.”
This year, the race and memorial walk also partnered with the Frank Celico Memorial Foundation, as its hometown tie to a local charity.
The next FL. ROC event will be Aug. 18, in Jacksonville.
