Flagler Palm Coast starting pitcher Dakota Wehde took matters into his own hands Tuesday night, throwing a complete-game shutout and helping the Bulldogs baseball team defeat Mandarin, 9-0, in the District 1-8A semifinals.
The Bulldogs (13-12) advance to the district championship game 6 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at No. 1-seeded Sandalwood. Regardless of Thursday’s outcome, the Bulldogs advance to the Class 8A state playoffs.
FPC scored one run in both the second and third innings before exploding for a six-run fourth inning. But one run was all the Bulldogs needed.
Wehde was nearly unhittable, allowing just two hits in seven innings of work while striking out eight and walking two. He threw 107 pitches, of which 69 were strikes.
Wyatt Seay led the offensive production for FPC, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Travis Cochran also went 3-for-4 with three singles.
Bulldogs lacrosse knocked out of states
Flagler Palm Coast (11-6) lost to Ponte Vedra, 18-1, Tuesday night in the first round of the boys state lacrosse playoffs.
Ponte Vedra is the No. 2-ranked boys lacrosse program in the state, according to FPC coach Ryan Andrews.
“Simply put, our best six players couldn’t beat their best 20 players,” Andrews said. “We were able to slow the pace, but we couldn’t contain them.”
Andrews said Wes Adams, Cheyne Devens and Shane Noble played the entire game and constantly faced double- and triple-team defending.
FPC’s lone goal was scored by senior Andrew Kemper, off a feed from Cheyne Devens.
FPC hosts Class 4A regional track meet
