Today marks the start of a new school year – and that’s not the only thing that’s new. Flagler County Schools partnered with the G.W. Carver Foundation to bring a new program, called Road to Success, to the county’s out-of-school youth this fall.
The program is funded by a grant awarded to the two organizations in collaboration, and it aims to train youth outside of the traditional educational system for employment or careers, Flagler County Schools announced on its website.
Road to Success will launch in September, and applications for the program will be available soon, the district’s site says. The program is open to people from 16 to 21 years old.
Approximately 13,000 students will file into schools within Flagler County this morning, according to a statement from Janet Valentine, superintendent of Flagler County Schools, on the school district’s site.
To accommodate the safety of these students, Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming is upping traffic patrols in school zones to ensure that motorists adhere to speed limits and crosswalk laws.
“I urge every motorist to be cautious as they travel around the schools each morning and afternoon,” Fleming said in a statement yesterday. “Let’s keep our children safe.”
