Flagler County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a 43-year-old Palm Coast man Friday morning on 11 counts of grand theft from a person more than 65 years old after posting as an electrical contractor and duping an 85-year-old homeowner out of more than $11,000.
Adam Vatrano, of the B-section, is also charged with violation of probation in connection with the contractor fraud case.
Sheriff’s Office detective Mark Linde, working with Palm Coast Code Enforcement, began an investigation of Vatrano after the victim reported that Vatrano had charged him $11,645 for electric wiring work that was never completed.
Vatrano also fraudulently represented himself to the victim as a licensed electrical contractor. In addition to the money paid to Vatrano, the victim incurred additional expenses to correct work that Vatrano had done to his home, according to detectives.
“Unlicensed contractors are a danger to the community for the shoddy and substandard work they do,” Sheriff Donald Fleming said in a Friday statement.
Vatrano was being booked into the Flagler County Inmate Facility on Friday morning on the grand theft charges along with a misdemeanor charge of working as an unlicensed contractor. He is being held without bond on the violation of probation charge.
Linde’s investigation also involved two other contractor fraud schemes perpetrated by Vatrano. He is facing additional charges in those cases.
