Recently, the Estate Planning Council of the Fun Coast held its monthly breakfast.
Speakers Laura Carnes and Dale Smith presented the Department of Labor changes that will go into effect this year, affecting all employer-sponsored retirement plans. Attendees were particularly struck with the enhanced scrutiny that will be placed upon plan sponsors as fiduciaries. Members received the presentation as a call to action to prepare their clients for these changes.
The council, an affiliate of the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils, meets every month disseminating information to professionals who assist in estate planning and other guidance to their clients. Meetings are open to the public.
