Lavender Fields Day Spa opens for business
Dora Kareem, owner of Lavender Fields Day Spa and Wellness Center, at 600 S. Yonge St., had previously rented space in other spas and treatment centers, but she wanted more control.
“If I’m going to pay money,” she said, “let it be for a spa I can call my own.”
Kareem opened the spa Oct. 8, and offers a variety of facials, waxing and massages, in addition to what she calls 30-minute “relaxation and meditation sessions.”
A ribbon-cutting was held at the location Nov. 30.

Luscious Nails celebrates first anniversary
Located at 156 W. Granada Blvd., Luscious Nail & Spa celebrated its first full year in business in Ormond Beach last month.
Prior to opening the store, owners Felicia and Tom Nguyen worked as nail technicians in a nearby salon.
“We built up our clientele,” Felicia Nguyen said. “And eventually, the landlord ... gave us this opportunity.”
Next, the couple plans to add two extra chairs and technicians to their salon, increasing their staff to six.

Heaven Scent Pet Sitting heads into 10th year
After working as an administrative assistant for awhile, Cathy Bullock was ready for a change. She loved animals and so decided to open a pet service.
Heaven Scent Pet Sitting was founded in 2003.
Bonded, insured and American Red Cross-certified in pet first aid and CPR, Bullock began offering dog-walking and pet-sitting services

Edward Jones hosts Toys for Tots
Laurie Ehresman’s Edward Jones office, at 175 E. Granada Blvd., will be a drop-off location for the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots campaign.
Donations of new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the office from 8:30 am to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, until Dec. 21.
Florida Hospital introduces hospice, signs with chamber
Officials from the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce and the city gathered for a Nov. 29 open house at the one-year-old Florida Hospital Hospice Care, in the Memorial Medical Center complex, at 301 Memorial Medical Parkway.
Hospice Care previously was housed at Florida Hospital Oceanside and opened in its current location in January
The same day, the hospital also signed an exclusive partner agreement with the chamber.
Additionally, Florida Hospital recently hired 20-year neonatologist Winslade Bowen to staff at Memorial Medical Center’s BirthCare Center. And two of the hospital’s directors were selected as examiners for the Florida Sterling Council, which is an organization that assesses and recognizes industry performance and excellence.
The highest award the group hands down is its Governor’s Sterling Award, which Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center received earlier this year.
Michele Goeb-Burkett, hospital vice-president for clinical services and chief nursing officer, and Kelly Rogers, executive director of clinical effectiveness, were each selected.

Sciortino attends national grooming seminar
Barkle N Shine Self-Serve Dog Wash and Grooming owner Cathy Sciortino attending the National Dog Groomers Association of America’s. 27th-annual Fun in the Sun Dog Groomers’ Seminar.
Two of the presentations she attended were a skin and coat presentation and another focused on the importance of pleasant smells and positive energy in the workplace.
The seminar took place at the end of October, in Orlando.
