When the moon hits your ribeye ...

6:30 p.m. -- 1500 Block of Granada Boulevard. Retail theft. The store’s loss-prevention officer flagged down an Ormond Beach police officer in the parking lot. He told the officer that a man that just walked past had stolen items from the store. The officer then ran after the defendant and apprehended him without incident.

The loss-prevention officer said he was approached by a younger male, who informed him the defendant was just stopped at an area grocery store attempting to steal items. The loss-prevention officer then watched the defendant as he took six rib eye steaks, chicken breasts, cookie dough and a box of candy, valued at $68.06, and “concealed the items behind his coat and in his pants.” The defendant then walked past all store registers without paying.

The police officer read the defendant his Miranda rights and he admitted to stealing the items. A criminal history check relieved the defendant had 10 previous failure to appears and two previous convictions for theft. Due to the defendant's criminal history, the charge was upgraded to felony retail theft.

'Why are you running? We know who you are.'

10:49 p.m. -- 1500 Block of Granada Boulevard. Shoplifting. The loss-prevention officer saw the defendant, who he recognized from a shoplifting arrest at the location two years ago, walking through the store pushing a shopping cart. A few minutes later, he watched the defendant walk out of the store with a shopping cart containing “toys and other assorted items,” without stopping to pay.

The loss-prevention officer followed the defendant out of the store and called out his name, which caused the defendant to turn around and reply, “Hey, (officer),” and then start running toward his vehicle. The loss-prevention officer yelled, “Why are you running? We know who you are,” and the defendant replied, as he entered his vehicle, “Bye, (officer),” and then drove out of the parking lot.

The total value of the items stolen, which included a Disney Minnie Mouse Kitchen and a Cinderella Fairy Tale Toy Castle, was valued at $657.64.
