The Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates recently selected a photograph by Timothy Sonn as the cover image for its 2013-14 “Fantastic Flagler Visitor & Newcomer Guide.”
In early November, the chamber’s tourism team brought in Team-Sandtastics of Sarasota (www.teamsandtastic.com) to construct an elaborate sculpture including sand and sea creatures with the Palm Coast & the Flagler Beaches tourism logo as its centerpiece. The sculpture was built over the course of the two-day Palm Coast Seafood Festival. Once the work of art was finished, photographers were encouraged to use their creativity to capture this one-of-a-kind creation and submit their entries to the chamber.
Sonn’s winning photograph was selected and will be revealed when the “2013-14 Fantastic Flagler Visitor & Newcomer Guide” is published in April.
According to the Chamber’s Vice President of Tourist Development Georgia Turner, the sand sculpture and contest were successful techniques to raise visibility for the new logo and rebranding efforts.
“Creating a bigger-than-life representation of our new logo in sand turned out to be a great idea. The sand sculpture is a visual that people will remember,” said Turner. “We’re thrilled by the response to our contest and the submissions we received from our talented local photographers. Timothy Sonn’s photograph will make an amazing front cover for our visitor and newcomer guide. It will be hard to keep it under wraps until the guide comes out in April.”
