The best advice I ever got is not to let people scare you out of your dreams, because if you work hard, you can achieve anything. This advice was given to me by my mom after going to a friend’s house, where our parents got to talking about college and soon, the subject turned to me.

I have a dream about going to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology because of its science department. I guess my friend’s parents thought it was impractical because they were suggesting other colleges to look into with cheaper prices.

This upset me, and I guess my mother noticed, because later that evening, she advised me and reassured me that there will always be scholarships and student loans that I can pay off later. She also said that if other people can get in, why can’t I?
