Cheryl Tanenbaum is senior vice president at Intracoastal Bank, making her one of the top female execs in Flagler.
Cheryl Tanenbaum, Intracoastal Bank’s new senior vice president and chief financial officer, got into the money game 28 years ago in New York, as a teller.
Her promotion last July, however, didn’t just mark further personal growth; it puts her in rare company as one of the few top female banking executives in Flagler County.
According to a study conducted last year by American Banker.com, more than half of all bank employees in the country today are women. Still, women make up only 17.9% of all top-level positions in banks.
“Cheryl has played a key role in the bank’s success, and we are very proud that our bank has set this example in Flagler County,” said Bruce Page, Intracoastal president.
In 1990, Tanenbaum started in Palm Coast’s Barnett Bank, which later became Bank of America. Slowly, she climbed the ladder, eventually becoming Bank of America’s assistant vice president, responsible for two of the company’s largest branch offices in Volusia and Flagler.
She then teamed with Page to open Cypress Bank, then Intracoastal.
“Bruce has been a true mentor to me over the past 17 years,” Tanenbaum said. “He has always supported me and helped me grow in this business. With two successful banks under our belts, I feel very proud of what we’ve accomplished together.”
Tanenbaum is also a mentor for the Take Stock in Children Program and the treasurer and chairwoman for the Senior Scholarship Committee. She serves on the board of the Flagler County Education Foundation, is a United Way and Women’s Initiative of Flagler County committee member and is a facilitator for Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Money Smart classes.
She has been married 24 years to Larry and has three children: Jonathan, 22, Russell, 20, and Sammi, 15.
