The Flagler County Board of County Commissioners will break ground 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, on twelve tournament-style horseshoe pits at Old Dixie Park, at 1250 South Old Dixie Highway.

The pits will be built under a canopy and constructed to the professional standards of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association. Once completed, the Flagler Palm Coast Horseshoe Club will seek approval from the national association to conduct sanctioned tournaments at the park.

Representatives from the club and the national association will be at the groundbreaking, as well as women’s world-champion horseshoe pitcher, Regina Hawes.

Construction of the horseshoe pits and a picnic pavilion at the park are expected to take about three months.
