Chad McFee, of Riverbend Drive, came to the aid of a fallen golfer at Palm Harbor one afternoon as he prepared for a round. The golfer had passed out on the driving range. McFee rushed to him, determined there was no pulse and administered CPR.

The golfer began breathing again. Medical personnel arrived, and the golfer was conscious and talking when taken away in an ambulance. That golfer is alive today.

McFee did what he had to do and simply walked away. He didn’t wait for applause or congratulations from spectators.

Chad McFee, you just topped the heroes list!

Teachers of the game
Among all the great things I’ve seen in golf here, I’m thoroughly convinced having the best teachers in Flagler County is at the top of the list. Mary Hafeman, former LPGA player and Palm Cost resident, was named Teacher of the Year in 2011 for the North Florida Professional Golf Association.

In the Feb. 8 edition of the Sports Illustrated golf edition, Hafeman was one of six famous golf people to respond when asked what can be done to help golf.

Of all the excellent answers from her, the one that caught my attention was as follows: “We have to get more parents involved in golfing as families,” Hafeman said.

There’s also Dane Winger, a teacher at Grand Haven.

But one of the best teachers is someone you might not know.

Kathy Murray, of Palm Coast, is a former LPGA player. She does most of her teaching now at Grand Reserve but could soon branch out to other courses.

Murray defeated Nancy Lopez in a practice round at Pine Lakes some years ago during Winter Cup. When I saw her land the ball within four yards of the hole in two shots on a 325-yard hole, I was convinced.

Among Murray’s credentials are lessons and studies from Craig Shankland, Harvey Penicle, Peter Kostis, Gardner Dickinson and other PGA pros. As Golf USA people will tell you, “She’s good, give her a try.”

You can reach Murray at 439-3788.

Are great teachers include Jim Simes; or Eric Gonazales, of Cypress; and also Luke Detering.
