City Repertory Theatre will open its performance of “Bus Stop” 7:30 p.m. Thursday Feb. 23, at Hollingsworth Gallery, 160 Cypress Pointe Parkway, Suite 207B.

"Bus Stop," written by William Inge, tells the stories of a group of stranded cross-country travelers trapped by a snowstorm at Grace's run-down, small town bus stop.

Grace, played by Julia Truilo, is a feisty middle-aged woman, estranged from her husband, who runs the bus stop cafe and lives in the apartment right above it. Working part-time for her is the brainy, naive but outgoing and curious high school girl, Elma Duckworth, played by Leana Gardella. Throughout the story, several characters stop at the bus stop, including town sheriff Will Masters, played by Jack Bigelow, and bus driver Carl, played by Rob Long.

Also making stops are: Cherie, played by Annie Gaybis, an Ozarks-bred looker who has been working as a chanteuse in a Missouri club; Bo Decker, played by Jonathan Haglund, a naive but cocky cowboy and rodeo champion who runs a ranch in Montana; Virgil Blessing, played by Jerry Curti, Bo’s sensitive, decent, guitar-strumming right-hand man; and Dr. Gerald Lyman, played by John Sbordone, the multi-divorced, vaguely alcoholic professor.

“The staged reading focuses on Inge's language and characters and allows us to concentrate on specific aspects of the script,” Sbordone said.

Co-directors Sbordone and Bobbi Fouts have adapted the play as a radio script. The audience will be invited to witness the live radio show.

The show will run 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, and Friday, Feb. 24, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26. Tickets are $15 with a $5 student rush five minutes before curtain.
