The Black History Youth Reality Show taught heritage Feb. 19 and raised funds for scholarships.

Youth came together Sunday, Feb. 19 to present the ninth-annual Youth Black History Reality Show, at the African American Cultural Center.

The presentation included monologues, solos, skits and dances presented by youth from the Ebony Society from both high schools, the Delta Academy/Gems, Mount Calvary Baptist Church, First Church of Palm Coast, Alpha Kappa Alpha Emerging Youth Leaders and the NAACP Youth Group.

“The purpose of the program is to make young people aware of their heritage and all the good work that trailblazers have done,” said Jeanette B. Wheeler, committee chairperson.

Building a good self image is also on the list.

“We feel that if a person is proud of themselves, they become a better person,” Wheeler said. “They can withstand a lot of criticism and other struggles they have in society, if they feel good about themselves.”

The program also included a call for donations, with more than $2,000 being raised for scholarships. Donations are still being accepted.

The committee is expecting to provide four scholarships to graduating Flagler County seniors who have demonstrated community service and are in good scholastic standing. Applicants must have participated in the Reality Show program for two years.
