In our first issue in January 2011, I featured four Flagler County student-athletes who I projected to break records, lead their teams to victory, and simply ball out over the course of the year.

Now that we are in 2012 (happy New Year!), it’s time to take a look back at the high school sports year that was for those four athletes.

Ty’Neka Addison
As point guard for the Flagler Palm Coast basketball team last year, then-senior Ty’Neka Addison led the Lady Bulldogs to a second-place district finish and a state playoff berth.

Throughout her four-year varsity career, Addison scored more than 1,900 points, the most in a career at FPC.

Addison is currently enrolled at Broward Community College, and is weighing her options to transfer schools to play college basketball.

Lee Ann Spivey
As a freshman, Lee Ann Spivey, catcher for the Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs softball team, verbally committed to play at the University of South Florida. She signed her National Letter of Intent in November 2011.

As a freshman and sophomore, Spivey had a batting average higher than .500.

Last season as a junior, Spivey hit three home runs, had 34 RBIs, and hit .557.

Wendell Powell
Wendell Powell led the Matanzas Pirates basketball team to its first state playoff berth last season, when he nearly averaged a double-double during his senior season — scoring about 17 points and nine rebounds per game.

Powell is currently playing college hoops at Ave Maria University, in Naples. He’s in a sixth-man role, averaging about 17 minutes and 7.1 points per game.

David Drumm
As a senior, David Drumm led the Matanzas Pirates cross-country team to the state meet for the fourth consecutive season. At the regional meet, Drumm led Matanzas and finished eighth overall with a time of 15 minutes, 56 seconds, a personal record.

Last spring during track-and-field season, Drumm was the team’s best finisher, placing sixth in the 3,200 meters, finishing in 9:47. Drumm’s time was a personal record and a school record.
